This is More Than a Hair Cut!

I got my hair cut this past week and let me tell you, it has not been the easiest thing to deal with. It happens every time. I think I want bangs; I see other people with cute bangs and I think to myself, “I would look cute rocking those bangs.” This is not true. I’ve had bangs before, many times and I looked awful, every time. I got bangs when I was graduating from college a couple years back. My hair looked so stupid and I had to go to all the graduation parties like that. These were the last times I saw many people from college and that is how they remember me. You think I would have learned my lesson by now, but apparently I didn’t. I’ve had the same hair cut ever since the incident in college and I was starting to get restless. I was seeing cute bangs all over town and I felt like it was time to make a change, take a leap. The woman who cut my hair was super cute. We talked about the science of hair. She seemed knowledgeable and I feel like I learned a lot. For example: she said that my hair is thin, but it is heavy and dense and that is why I can’t get any volume in my hair. She suggested getting a root lifting spray. She also told me that adding a single “medium layer” would give me volume without giving the “Mrs. Brady” look. My hair looked great after she cut and styled it for me. (Even though I look like a hag in this picture.)

The next day was a completely different story. I had a claw over my head.

And so was the day after that. My hair was plastered to my head due to the improper use of the root lifting spray I got. Anyway, I’ve slowly been figuring out how to style my hair. Some days are great, some are good, a lot are bad and none look like the day my hair stylist gave me the new cut.

Lent gets harder than ever...

It’s that time of year, Lent is upon us. All good Catholics give up something or do something to better their life.

Let us get one thing straight. I’m not Catholic. I am a Christian, but not Catholic. Not that being Catholic is bad, I just wasn’t raised to be Catholic. Since I wasn't raised to be Catholic, there are a lot of things that I don’t get about that sect of faith, but I feel like Lent is a good practice for a person in general. If it’s going to help you better your life, then what is the harm in doing it?

I could have gone the easy route. I could have given up chocolate (yeah right) or cussing, but I decided to make this year extra hard on me. I gave up shopping for clothes, shoes and accessories.

YES! That’s right no more shopping until April 25, 2011.

This is hard for me because I shop as a source of entertainment since there is not a lot to do where I live. There really is not a lot of places to shop, but of all things I could be doing, shopping is the easiest to attain.
We will see if I can make it to the end of these 40 days without buying a single new fashion accessory.

Hobby: Paint-Your-Own Pottery

I’ve been working on finding hobbies. Back in August, I visited another town while I was doing some work training and there was this place where you could paint-your-own pottery. You could also create a mosaic, which is what I did since I didn’t have a lot of time (it takes a couple days to get your pottery back). It was fun and I started wishing for a place like that to open up in my town, so I could add things to my list of things to do.

Shortly after my visit to the other city, a paint-your-own pottery store opened up in the town I live in. There are all sorts of things to paint: decorative, functional and playful things.

All the things I’ve painted have been more playful, for kids. I guess my inner child wanted to break out. If I continue with this hobby, I will have to move on to more functional pottery items, like plates, cups and wine glasses, etc.

I liked this particular hobby because it is more crafty, rather than artistic. Being artisitic does not come easy for me. It’s fairly easy and it’s fun. If you have something like this near you, I suggest trying it.

My snake with the heart lips. ♥

The cutely deranged monkey!

Piggy bank... to help with my savings goal.

Camo giraffe. You can't see him.

My poorly painted duck. I was going for a feathered look, but it didn't quite work out.

Achieve

At this point in time, my life is pretty boring (mainly because of my current geographical location.) There is not much for me to do.

I read someone else’s blog the other day about picking a “theme word” for your year. For 2011, I pick the word ACHIEVE.

According to the New Oxford American Dictionary on my AmazonKindle… Achieve: (verb) to reach or attain (a desire objective, level, or result) by effort, skill, or courage.

I have some desired objectives that I need to reach or gain and I think this slow point in my life is the time to do it.

1) Make 5 more friends
2) Take the GRE and apply for grad school
3) Get a hobby
4) Take a class
5) Get out of debt and tithe
